My name is Bailey Heck and I am serving with the Minnesota Reading Corps at the Duluth Community School Collaborative this summer. As an elementary education masters candidate, I am incredibly passionate about youth development programming. The opportunity to serve in my community while also working with a program that provides enrichment activities for local youth is really what drew me to the Community School Collaborative. I’m looking forward to a fun summer of learning and making an impact!
I've spent my first couple of weeks at the Collaborative diving into what it means to support full-service community schools. The Duluth Community School Collaborative is a non-profit organization that I am proud to be a part of this summer. Community schools bring so many good things to the local neighborhood. By focusing on the children and their immediate needs, the entire community is set up for success. The Duluth Community School Collaborative has a really great article about the philosophy behind community schools. Also, check out this YouTube video that goes into what community schools are all about!
One of the things I love about the Duluth Community School Collaborative is the amount of support they provide other local organizations. The focus with this organization really is what is best for local youth. For this reason, the collaborative has so many resources for families on where to find programming that best fits their needs. https://www.duluthcsc.org/programfinder
